Seasoned vs. Freshly Cut Wood Freshly cut firewood can be up to 45% water. Over time, wood can lose moisture and become “seasoned.” Seasoned firewood is easier to start, produces more heat, and burns cleaner. Make sure to call ahead to see if there is seasoned wood available.
Storing Firewood For firewood to burn it must be stored away from rain and water as much as possible, and preferably off of the ground. The dryer the wood is the better it will burn.
